John 14:14 KJV "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."
Problems arise when people take a single verse out of context. I believe it is a mistake to take this stand alone verse at face value - if you expect Jesus to answer all your prayers because you pray in Jesus' name, you are reading something into this verse that isn't there. Pay careful attention to verse 13, "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." And verse 15, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." These passages are about glorifying Him, fully identifying with Him. This is for the Lord's glory, not our own selfish needs or wants. It also depends on our obedience to Him. Many people say they love the Lord, but fail to even try to keep His commandments. A simple profession of love is no proof, our true love for Him leads us to do His will. If you love Christ, yield to His requirements. How many hypocrites are there among us preaching of their pious ways, all the while selecting which commandments are convenient for them to follow in their daily lives and which are not?
